Generally speaking, your body will metabolise 1 unit of alcohol per hour.

So if you’ve drunk heavily in the evening (a single bottle of wine for example is around 9 units) then the chances are you may still be over the legal drink drive limit the following morning.

That’s the reason the police do morning traffic patrols, as they do catch a lot of people who have been out drinking the night before who were completely unaware that they are still over the legal limit.

Be aware, and work out how many units you have drunk and don’t get behind the wheel for that number of hours afterwards. It’s just not worth the risk.
