When I met Neil, I was overweight, struggling with a number of medical conditions including arthritis in both knees, and both my body image and self-esteem were at a low ebb.

In the four months that I have been working with Neil, I can honestly say that he has changed my life!

I always thought that I ate healthily (had the odd treat or snack) and exercised regularly (3-5 days a week) but I soon realised that I had formed some bad habits.

Following my initial consultation with Neil, it became clear that although weight loss was a significant goal, my main focus was to improve my general health, be able to manage the chronic fatigue caused by a medical condition and improve my gut health. On my journey with Neil so far, I have lost 10kg (22lbs), have dropped two dress sizes and am in sight of the goals I set myself at the start. My body image/self-esteem has improved in leaps and bounds, my medical conditions are much better controlled  – I even went to a hospital appointment recently and was able for the first time to announce “I feel great” instead of having a list of issues to sort out. Without that extra 10kg, I have been able to go back to my combat classes and can now walk around a museum or go shopping without being in agony!

I have learnt so much since working with Neil and have come to realise that body composition is much more important than weight which at the end of the day is just a number!! All of my body composition statistics are now coming into the healthy range and I do feel great! Visceral fat and body fat %, body size measurements and my metabolic age have all fallen dramatically, and my hydration and muscle mass have increased. I am in my late 50’s and not uncommonly was carrying too much weight, had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and was on medication for high blood pressure. I was taking 4 tablets each morning and a statin at night. Each year I had become accustomed to gaining a bit of weight, putting it down to “typical for my age”. I’m not vain, but I was becoming self-conscious realising that in photos I was the overweight one. I wasn’t happy with my situation, but wasn’t sure how to go about changing a situation that clearly needed changing. I didn’t have the energy levels I should have, and knew I needed to take more care of myself.

In 2017 I suffered a serious shoulder injury, and while awaiting surgery keeled over one day, leading to a visit to a cardiologist, and a trip to an operating theatre for an angiogram. Two consultants eventually discharged me from their care, but with their words ringing in my ears that I needed to lose weight, unless I wanted to bring on more health problems. I wasn’t massively overweight, but I was overweight, and clearly that was affecting my health.

Early in 2018 I started working with Neil and was drawn to his approach. Neil went to a lot of effort to listen to me and to find out what issues were causing me the greatest concerns. Neil is passionate about eating the right food. What resonated with me was his focus on natural ingredients, and food that, where possible, is unprocessed. By utilising a food diary Neil was able to laser in on foods that specifically affected me. By regularly working with him, and by sticking to his programme, my weight has fallen, and more importantly stopped yo-yo’ing. My blood sugar levels have been brought under control, but most crucially through eating a healthy diet, not because of my medication. I have taken up exercise too. That’s played a significant part in how matters have progressed, but as anyone who knows will tell you, “you can’t out-exercise a bad diet”. Working with Neil has completely changed my perception of normality. He doesn’t support any food programmes, just healthy eating. He’s taught me not to obsess about weight. It’s not the actual weight that’s important, it’s what that weight is that counts more. My visceral fat levels have fallen, my hydration levels have increased, my muscle mass has increased, my metabolic age has reduced – no longer am I the older man in a younger man’s body. I have much more energy than when I started working with Neil, and move far more feely too.

Neil places great emphasis on education, he’s not at all prescriptive, but is very supportive. By learning to live a healthier lifestyle I know what’s good, what’s not so good, and what’s just bad for you, I’ve learned that you can have some of each and still enjoy life, but I know how to manage each.

The impact has been stark. My blood pressure is well under control, my cholesterol levels are low and my blood sugar levels have fallen dramatically. I recently had my annual diabetic review and my doctors have stated that if in six months time my levels are as they are presently they will take me off all medication. If that happens it will be a huge step because it happens all too rarely. Going forward I will continue working with Neil. Were I to revert to old habits the previous health issues would clearly reoccur, which is something I’m very keen to avoid. I know what I need to do, but continuing to work with Neil will keep everything in focus.

The simple truth is that having tried dieting in the past, having concentrated on healthy eating, I’ve never been able to structure things properly. Neil’s expertise, support and guidance have enabled me to do what has always eluded me in the past, and I have no doubt that without his help I wouldn’t have made the gains and lasting changes that I have.

Finally, having said I’m not a vain person, I ditched my 40” waist trousers and am now buying waist size 34”, and commensurately slimmer shirts. Nothing wrong with a bit of vanity !!

I met Neil at a Business over Breakfast meeting in September 2017.  What impressed me was the fact that he stressed long term weight management NOT a quick fix that comes back equally quickly.

We started with a discovery session that highlighted a few problems with my diet.  A two week eating diary confirmed the first impression –much too much chocolate and too little water.

Over nearly 40lbs Of Weight Lost In 6 Months – Without Dieting!

I started to work with Neil a few weeks ago having suddenly been confronted by a spike in my normally stable blood pressure. The GP did all the things that you would expect and of course recommended that I lose weight.

I had been slowly and steadily putting on weight for the last twenty years and although I could lose say half a stone from time to time I inevitably ended up putting it all back on.

I feel healthier, more energised, and lighter and a whole lot more positive about sticking to long term changes for the better. I’m not just watching numbers go down on the scales I’m feeling everything improving.

“I have Ulcerative Colitis”

I have Ulcerative Colitis (Inflammatory Bowel Disease), which is controlled by immunosuppressant which meant I was getting colds and chest infections every month or so.  I had next to no energy.  As I have a 3 year old to look after I couldn’t go on like this, so I thought a nutritionist might be able to help (my diet consisted of high sugar foods to try and gain weight to no avail).

Since working with Neil I have changed the way I think about what I am eating, I have drastically reduced my sugar in take and changed to a healthier diet (colitis permitting) and I have only had one chest infection in 5 months.

I have so much more energy, am going to bed later which has improved my relationship with my Husband.  All this is down to the advice and guidance from Neil.  He closely monitors what I am eating and how I am feeling and relates this to my symptoms, which have now reduced as I can manage my diet and stress levels more effectively.

Neil is always there at the end of an email or the phone when I need some support.  He has given lots of useful recipes to keep my diet varied.  He is helping me to gain weight and muscle mass, which is slowly creeping up.

I don’t know where I would be today without Neil’s help and guidance.
